Abstract

Intravenous thrombolysis is the only evidence based effective treatment for ischemic stroke. There is an unrealized potential for increasing the rate of stroke patients undergoing specific treatment in Bulgaria and some other European countries. But efforts in this direction should not confuse the outcome of the applied therapy.
Qualitative indicators such as door-to-needle time and the degree of functional independence of the patients after thrombolysis should be subject to regulated analysis to ensure that specific treatment is available and effective for patients with acute stroke.
