Laboratory predictors of clinical outcome in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage
Keywords:
laboratory predictors, hematoma expansion, spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhageAbstract
Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage is a leak of blood into the brain parenchyma. It occurs in 10-20% of all strokes and is characterized by a high morbidity and mortality. Hematoma expansion occurs in about one third of patients with intracerebral and is an independent prognostic sign for clinical neurological deterioration.
This makes the prevention of hematoma expansion one of the most promising therapeutic strategies. In the presence of contraindications for neurosurgical treatment, conservative therapy remains the main method of choice. That is why there is an increasing interest in laboratory parameters such as serum sodium, glucose, white blood cell count, hemoglobin, and C-reactive protein levels and their prognostic value for outcome in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.
