Thrombolysis in COVID-19 pandemic
Keywords:
COVID-19, ischemic stroke, thrombolysis, treatmentAbstract
Patients with COVID-19 infection have a higher risk of developing stroke. In the global pandemic neurologists are confronted with new challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of acute stroke.
Because of the extraordinary circumstances, substantial changes of the acute stroke workflow have been done. A high attention on stroke as an emergency condition must be payed, because of the decreased number of patients with minor strokes and TIAs seeking medical emergency care and longer onset-to-door and door-to treatment times for major strokes. We strongly believe that the general population and family doctors should be focused not only on COVID, but on patients with stroke symptoms who should be rapidly diagnosed and should receive a proper treatment, instead of staying at home.
