Abstract

A variety of biomarkers have been evaluated to aid the early diagnosis of brain ischemia, to distinguish from different stroke mimics, to stratificate patients for thrombolytic therapy and to predict stroke severity and outcome. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is a relatively novel biomarker for rapid detection of brain ischaemia. The serum levels of IMA increase in the acute phase of ischemic stroke and gradually decline over time.
We analyzed data on 43 patients who presented with acute ischaemic stroke and studied the dynamics of IMA levels in the acute phase of brain ischaemia compared to 72 hours after the onset of neurological deficits.
